about

"Sometimes I Kimberly Myself" was originally recorded in the winter of 2012/2013 at the Organ Haus in Minneapolis, MN and is ultimately my best bedroom prog album to date. The album title came to me one freezing cold night in February as I was marching down the sidewalk in my bathrobe on my way over to someone's house. "Sometimes I can't believe myself," I laughed. Soon enough, that phrase abstracted to exchange "can't believe" for "Kimberly", and the album had its name.

Looking back on it, the album is a celebration of the wild chaos that so often leads to my creative productivity. It was made during a period when I only felt intense all of the time. Kimberly is the feminine representation of my consciousness' need to create out of chaos, and it's a consciousness that I know has no gender in the end, but that still enjoys playing in that realm while here. It's a feeling that has always been with me since early childhood, and one that I have the privilege of getting to know better with each passing year.

"Sometimes I Kimberly Myself" continues to be my favorite because of this happy celebration, and because it holds so many of my best and brightest songs: "Under the Knife", "Sometimes I Actually Kimberly Myself", "Indrid Cold", "Bangs of New York", "When the Wind Came Down on the Person's Head", and "Mary Has a Wheelchair and Lots of Markers". It's astonishing to me that I was able to write all of those in such a small window of time. Sometimes I can't believe myself!! Here's to Kimberly, and here's to Consciousness. Enjoy! :)
